Coyote Road Kill

It has been rumored that this team stops along the highways and picks up road kill to barbecue.  This, we are told by team head cook, Dan Cannon, "Is a slanderous claim made by other competition barbecue teams jealous of our record. In fact, all the meat we cook in competitions is fresh kill brought home by my two beagles."  Well, we are finally glad to put that rumor to rest.

Team members L to R: Gary Balbach, Bill Wight, Rick Strieff, Dan Cannon and Barbara Cannon pose before Dan's Ole Hickory pit and a few of their recent trophies.

Dan and Barbara hale from someplace called Aqua Dulce, Rick from somewhere near Magic Mountain, Gary from La Cresenta and Bill is usually found hiding out in Alta Loma.

Dan does Saturday catering with his rig under the name CRK Specialty Q.  Dan thought catering under the name 'Coyote Road Kill' might give his prospective clients the wrong impression.  I we have it on good advice that Dan uses the same meat sources for competition as he does for catering.

Gary owns a nice smoker made by David Klose in Texas, Rick owns several WSMs and Bill has two Weber grills and a Black Diamond smoker.  Of course, Dan has more smokers and grills on his property than David Klose has at his business.  You know, some guys collect antique guns, others cars, others women, but Dan, well, he just collects smokers and grills.

To learn more about CRK, visit Dan's greatly informative web site.
